NPL Safety & Training Introduction
Welcome to the NPL Safety Page. Here you can find links to the Division of Research Safety (DRS) website, SOP's, as well as information needed to meet the safety requirements for working at the Nuclear Physics Laboratory at the University of Illinois.
What is the minimum training required?
General Lab Safety Training is the minimum
requirement for everyone
What other training do I need?
The "Barn" is the large lab located on 23 Stadium Drive. Those that work at the lab will need to contact Eric Thorsland
for further training specific to your work. NPL staff will assist with specific orientation and training requirements.
More about the Barn & Safety:
There are multiple experiments in the Barn which outfits a full machine shop; visit the Lab page
Machine shop equipment is for staff use only. Some equipment can be used after training and initial supervision.
The shop and adjacent areas are for work and research only. Personal or other use will not be tolerated.
NPL staff will stop any work by anyone not authorized to use equipment.
Do not work at the Barn? Is there further safety training?
Yes, other labs may be specific to special Laser or Radiation Safety training.
Ask your PI or NPL technician what is required.
